Faux fall is here, and the DMV is thriving

Siri, play the "Gilmore Girls" theme song, because we are seeing some truly glorious fall-like temps in the DMV.

Why it matters: The city is geeking out over this faux fall weather after a record-setting hot summer filled with several heat waves and a drought watch .

    • Plus: It's the perfect backdrop for your autumnal montage into pumpkin spice season (more on that below).

State of play: The last two days have seen highs in the 70s, with lows at night reaching into the 50s and 60s — some A+ August weather .

    • Thursday's high is 80 degrees, with lows expected in the 50s.

The intrigue: Wednesday morning we saw the chilliest August temperature at DCA in 20 years — 59 degrees, per the Capital Weather Gang:

    • At BWI, it was 53 degrees — the coldest August temp since 2013. And at Dulles, it was 50 degrees — the frostiest since 1998.
    • These are temperatures typically associated with late September.

Yes, but: Get out and enjoy it while you can, fall freaks, because we'll be back in our sweaty pits era by this weekend .

    • Highs are expected to creep into the high 80s by Sunday and will be in the 90s next week.

Take advantage of the crisp air and check out our guide to rooftop bars .
