Graffiti on barricades near JD Vance's Alexandria home covered

Chalk graffiti on barricades surrounding a park near vice presidential nominee JD Vance 's Alexandria home was painted over Tuesday.

    • The messages included phrases like "Harris 24" and "Not going back."

Catch up quick: Barricades went up around Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park in Del Ray last month to provide security for Vance, and it originally seemed the park would be indefinitely closed.

    • This prompted Del Ray residents to throw it a "celebratory wake."

However, the park is now "operating on a modified schedule with intermittent closures," at the request of the Secret Service , according to the city of Alexandria.

    • The barricades are rented and managed by Secret Service, Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson tells Axios. "The city has no role in this."
    • The Secret Service didn't immediately return Axios' request for comment.
