Iowa's fall colors will be especially vibrant

Step aside, New England — the Midwest is the place to be for leaf-peeping season this year, according to AccuWeather .

Driving the news: Vibrant fall foliage is expected in Iowa and the majority of the Midwest, thanks to persistent rainfall this spring and summer, followed by a dry fall.

• "We are forecasting the best places to go are in the Midwest," said Paul Pastelok, a long-range forecaster with AccuWeather, in a statement.

Zoom in: Peak fall colors in northeast Iowa are forecasted between Oct. 10-20, according to the Iowa DNR .

• Peak foliage is expected in central, southeast and southwest Iowa starting around Oct. 19-20.

If you go: Here in central Iowa, there are plenty of elevated spots to see acres of trees, including the High Trestle Trail bridge near Madrid and Ledges State Park in Boone.

The big picture: If you want to get out of town, other vibrant leaf-peeping states include Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Kansas, according to AccuWeather.
