A weed-themed sandwich shop is coming to Johnston

A new "counter-culture," marijuana -themed sub shop is opening in the Des Moines metro this year.

Driving the news: Cheba Hut, a franchise, is opening at 5260 Merle Hay Road in Johnston with the potential for more stores.

What it is: While they don't serve cannabis, the shop offers weed-themed foods like "toasted" sandwiches and "munchies" including garlic cheese bread and pretzel bites.

They will have alcoholic drinks like "hash can," a cocktail with Red Bull, and "Buzzed Bong Water," a rum drink with blue-raspberry Kool-Aid.

👀 What we're watching: One Cheba Hut franchise closed in Iowa City in 2014 . The owner said at the time the Midwest "is a tough market," according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen.
