Beyoncé launches a whiskey brand with Texas roots

Beyoncé has added a whiskey to her repertoire. SirDavis is Queen Bey's first foray into spirits and will be headquartered in Houston, her hometown.

Driving the drink: SirDavis is a tribute to Beyoncé's paternal great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, a "moonshiner" and farmer in the South during Prohibition. He apparently stashed whiskey bottles in the empty knots of cedar trees for his loved ones to find.

How it happened: Beyoncé, a Japanese whisky enthusiast, partnered with Moët Hennessy, a division of French luxury conglomerate LVMH, to craft a unique flavor profile that embodied her vision of the perfect whiskey.

    • LVMH enlisted master distiller Bill Lumsden to lead the project. He used a blend of 51% rye and 49% malted barley and combined traditional whiskey-making techniques, delivering an elegant texture reminiscent of Japanese and Scotch whiskies while retaining the robust flavors of classic American rye.

What they're saying: "I've always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling," Beyoncé said in an announcement.

    • "When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy."

Fun fact: Beyoncé helped design the tall, ribbed glass bottle, which features a bronzed horse symbolizing strength, respect and her Texas roots. The whiskey is finished, blended and bottled in the Lone Star State.

What's next: SirDavis is available for pre-order at $89 and will hit retail stores in select states across the country, including Texas, in September.
