Rappers for Trump record campaign song ahead of election

Donald Trump has a new campaign anthem, courtesy of South Florida rap star Kodak Black.

Why it matters: The song " ONBOA47RD " — a reference to Trump's bid to be the 47th president — is the conservative answer to "FDT (F*** Donald Trump"), a 2016 political anthem from rapper YG .

    • The newly released song, which gives Trump songwriting credit, splices together clips of his political speeches, including his remarks after his assassination attempt.

The big picture: The pro-Trump track, which features New York rapper Fivio Foreign, comes as Vice President Kamala Harris has received support from hip-hop heavyweights Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo .

The intrigue: Did the Trump campaign commission the song? It wouldn't be the first time the former president has had rappers act as political surrogates .

    • A campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but the lyrics might offer a clue.
    • "When Trump called I was on tour," Foreign raps on the chorus.

Flashback: Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kapri, has sung Trump's praises since the then-president commuted his prison sentence in 2021 for falsifying documents to purchase a gun.

    • Black even has a gold chain with Trump's face on it smoking a joint.
    • In the new song, Black says Trump is like family and takes a shot at his White House predecessor: "I ain't even seen this many Black people freed during the Obama days."
