Miami's best cheesecake is back at Casa Vigil

If you miss the creamy basque cheesecake from the dearly departed Leku , executive chef Mikel Goikolea brought the famed recipe to his newest restaurant, Casa Vigil in Upper Buena Vista.

State of plate: Martin and his Spaniard wife Marta visited recently to sample its fusion of Argentine and Spanish cuisines.

We had their Miami Spice offer, a three-course dinner for $60 each. Not a bad deal for a restaurant whose original Mendoza, Argentina location has a Michelin star .

    • Drinks are not included, but it's worth splurging on red wine here. After all, owner Alejandro Vigil is nicknamed the "Messi of wine."

The vibes: Sit outside to bask in the natural beauty of Upper Buena Vista , an open-air market built in the shadow of a 130-year-old banyan "wish tree" with colorful ribbons tied to its trunk and branches.

The food: Our MVPs were the wagyu carpaccio, the grilled octopus and, of course, the cheesecake.

    • The carpaccio, with foie micuit and shredded parmigiano Reggiano on top, was the best bite of the night for me. So salty in the best possible way.
    • The octopus, served on creamy potato parmentier, seemed to be a modern twist on Spain's classic pulpo a la gallega.
    • The basque cheesecake tart, with raspberry ice cream, is simply the best dessert in Miami. It's so fluffy you just want to lie your head on it like a pillow.

To drink: We got a $59 bottle of El Enemigo Cabernet Franc , a house wine from Mendoza with notes of sweet spices and cloves, per the maker.
