City House, the Germantown neighborhood mainstay that helped put Nashville on the culinary map a decade ago, was named one of the nation's 22 best pizza places last month by the New York Times .

Why it matters: Since City House opened in 2007, Nashville's pizza offerings and its overall culinary scene have exploded. In a sea of ever-opening new and noteworthy restaurants, it's nice to see a Nashville OG get its flowers.

What they're saying: "The restaurant, opened by the chef Tandy Wilson in 2007, helped trailblaze the pizzeria-as-Italian-American-trattoria. At the same time, it showed how well Southern ingredients and recipes take to Italian cuisine," the New York Times said in describing City House.

Flashback: Wilson is no stranger to foodie accolades.

The bottom line: A new wave of fantastic restaurants open in Nashville every year, and our reliable favorites can suddenly become underappreciated.

    • "We feel incredibly special and honored to be listed among so many great restaurants and chefs!!" City House said in an Instagram post celebrating the Times honor .
    • "We couldn't do what we do without a community of supporters and patrons so thank you to everyone who has come through our doors over the last 16 years and thank you to the farms that continue to grow delicious and nutritious food for us all."

Stop by: City House is located at 1222 4th Avenue North and is open at 5pm every day but Tuesday. Reservations are suggested.
