Tennessee Titans react to bad play, sideline meltdown

The Tennessee Titans are going viral for all the wrong reasons.

Why it matters: A spontaneous outburst from coach Brian Callahan on Sunday summed up what plenty of fans were thinking after another preventable error from quarterback Will Levis .

What he's saying: "What the f--- are you doing?!" Callahan seemed to shout from the sidelines after the fumble on Sunday.

    • The moment quickly made the rounds on social media.

Zoom out: Levis has displayed the bad habit of turning the ball over while trying to make desperation plays.

    • His interception against the Bears and his fumble against the Jets came while Levis was trying to make a one-in-a-million play that painfully backfired.

State of play: Callahan was blunt while discussing Sunday's fumble, and his fiery reaction, with reporters.

"It was dumb . It was the same exact thing he did last week," Callahan said during a Sunday press conference.

    • "He's a grownup and he knows better and so I was really irritated that he cost us three points in a game that we probably needed it."

The latest: On Monday, Callahan struck a more measured tone, saying he regretted that his outburst was caught on camera.

    • "I just think I can do a better job," Callahan said . "Just like I ask my players to control their emotions, I probably should control mine a little bit."

Yes, but: "I don't regret my feelings about it and how I felt in the moment," Callahan also said .

    • "I am generally pretty composed. That one just set me off … I'm human like everybody else. I have blackout moments where I'll lose my mind."

The big picture: Players who spoke to reporters Monday emphasized the need to improve protection around Levis so he has more time to make better decisions.

The bottom line: Levis said he understood Callahan's frustration on Sunday, adding that the second game of the season felt like "like déjà vu, twice in a row shooting ourselves in the foot."

    • "I'm going to do everything I can to rewire my brain to make sure that when I'm in those situations, I'm not making those decisions."
