Nate Bargatze, Jelly Roll to appear on "Saturday Night Live"

Nashville stars will feature prominently in upcoming episodes of "Saturday Night Live."

Why it matters: Two Music City natives have been tapped to host and sing at the beginning of the sketch show's landmark 50th season.

Zoom in: Ascendant country star Jelly Roll will be the musical guest for the season premiere on Set. 28 alongside host Jean Smart.

• Standup comic Nate Bargatze — who built a bit around his childhood ZIP code 37138 in the Old Hickory area — will host on Oct. 5 with musical guest Coldplay. It will be his second time hosting "SNL."

Don't forget: Cast member James Austin Johnson , another Nashville native who got his start at Zanies comedy club on Eighth Avenue, is sure to show up in plenty of election season sketches. He has impersonated both President Biden and former President Trump on the show.
