If you need a bike repair or tuneup, Dominick Pecora has you covered.

Why it matters: The 15-year-old bike whisperer from the Philly suburbs was named one of five honorees in Time magazine's " Kid of the Year " edition.

Driving the news: Time selected six kids from nominations of those who have contributed in fields ranging from social justice to business.

    • This year's winner was Heman Bekele, a young scientist from Fairfax, Virginia.

Zoom in: Pecora's aspirations grew out of needing a quick way to make a buck to buy a new, expensive mountain bike, per Time.

    • He learned how to fix bikes by watching YouTube videos, then his mom helped him set up a Facebook page called Dom Fixes Bikes.
    • Before he knew it, business was booming, and he had raised enough money to buy the mountain bike — plus six new bikes he gave away to kids for Christmas.

The latest: Pecora put his entrepreneurial skills to good use and last year opened a bike repair shop in Malvern .

    • It was a big revolution for Pecora who first started working out of his home, then later, a one-car garage.
    • Pecora gave away more than 120 bikes during the holidays — and has donated bikes built for kids with special needs.

What they're saying: "I always wanted everyone to be able to ride a bike, no matter their financial abilities," Pecora told Time .
