It's fake fall in Philly — but not for long

Siri, tell us it's almost football season without telling us it's almost football season.

Why it matters: Philly is geeking out over this week's faux fall weather — the smell of the Linc's crisply cut grass in the air (!) — after a record-setting hot summer filled with several heat waves .

State of play: The last few days have seen highs in the 70s.

    • Friday's high is 83 degrees, with lows expected in the 60s.

The intrigue: Wednesday's low of 57 in Philly was the coolest August temperature we've had since 2007, per the National Weather Service .

    • We set the record for chilliest August temp (44 degrees) in 1986.

What's ahead: Rock your fall football swag while you can, Bird Gang, because we'll be back in our sweaty pits era by this weekend.

    • Highs are expected to creep into the mid-80s by Saturday and will be in the high 80s earlier next week.
