    Former Philly Mayor Jim Kenney stumps for Kamala Harris

    Former Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney has re-entered the political spotlight to stump for Vice President Kamala Harris in the final weeks of the presidential race.

    Why it matters: Kenney's been MIA since leaving office last January after two terms.


    Driving the news: The former mayor joined a Zoom call with Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti on Wednesday to denounce former President Trump ahead of Trump's rally in Scranton that day, per the Times Leader .

    What he's saying: "They asked me," Kenney said about the Harris campaign tapping him to campaign for her, per the Inquirer . "And I'm happy to do it."

    Where he's been: After a bumpy tenure , Kenney has laid low since his successor, Mayor Cherelle Parker, took office.

    • "After January, I traveled a bit. I was out of the city for a few months," Kenney said.

    What we're watching: We could see more of Kenney on the campaign trail before the Nov. 5 election.

    • "If they need me between now and Election Day, [I'll] go anywhere, do anything, or do events like this," Kenney said, per the Inquirer.
