Nick Sirianni in hot seat ahead of Eagles-Browns game

Not even halfway through the season, some fans are calling for the firing of Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni after his team's subpar start.

Why it matters: The Eagles return from their bye week Sunday under pressure to improve after losing eight of their last 11 games dating back to last season.

The big picture: Sirianni is no stranger to the hot seat.

    • He survived calls for his job after last season's disastrous collapse. He promised to "reprove" himself to fans this year and started by revamping his coaching staff in the offseason.

Reality check: The Eagles (2-2) are off to a slow start, but part of that isn't Sirianni's fault. The team has been decimated by injuries, including to star wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith .

    • Despite the coaching changes, the Eagles have at times looked weak on both sides of the ball.
    • Their defense gave up a last-minute touchdown in a gutting loss to the Falcons in their "Monday Night Football" home-opener. And the offense scored only 16 points in a blowout loss to the Buccaneers — the same team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season.

The latest: The Eagles now ready to host the Cleveland Browns (1-4), potentially the perfect foil for Sirianni and co. since they're enduring their own early-season struggles .

Between the lines: The strained relationship between Sirianni and QB Jalen Hurts was a focal point heading into the season.

    • The star signal-caller spent the bye week having free-flowing conversations with Sirianni about how the Eagles can improve.
    • "I'm happy and fortunate that we were able to come together in harmony and have the same goal in mind in trying to get this thing right," Hurts told reporters.

The bottom line: As is the life of most NFL head coaches, Sirianni is living week-to-week.

If you go: Sunday's kickoff is 1pm at the Linc. Tickets: $170+

    • The game is being televised on Fox.
