The celebrities you might not know are from Richmond

Pharrell, Missy Elliott and Chris Brown (a Tappahannock native) are among the most-mentioned celebrities from Virginia — but Richmond has its fair share, too.

Before we get to the ones born here, though, we've got to shout out some other honorable mentions:

• Actress Sandra Bullock is from Arlington, as is reporter Katie Couric .
• Actor Rob Lowe was born in Charlottesville and posted a pic in 2013 of himself in front of the Richmond church where Patrick Henry said, "Give me liberty, or give me death!"

Now onto Richmond:

🎤 D'Angelo, the R&B singer whose "Brown Sugar" debut album in 1995 went platinum, grew up in South Richmond.

🎾 Arthur Ashe, a famous tennis player whose monument is on Monument Avenue.

✍🏼 David Baldacci, an author who we don't think has taken a break in his life considering the dozens of novels he's written in the last 20-plus years, was born and raised in Richmond and went to VCU.

🏆 Lucy Dacus, who won a Grammy earlier this year with her rock label band boygenius and was allegedly name-dropped in Taylor Swift's latest album.

📺 Vince Gilligan created TV shows "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul."

❤️ Jenny Han, an author known for writing the "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" and "The Summer I Turned Pretty" series, which were both adapted for streaming.

🎬 Shirley MacLaine, an actress with a 70-year-long career that includes "Steel Magnolias," "Terms of Endearment" and "Only Murders in the Building."

• Her brother is actor and director Warren Beatty.

💰 Constance Wu, an actress known for her role in "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Hustlers," graduated from Freeman High School in Henrico.

• Her dad is a VCU professor .
