Thousands of rubber ducks to race down Richmond's canal

More than 17,000 rubber ducks will descend upon Brown's Island on Saturday in a race down the canal to win $10,000.

Why it matters: Anyone can buy a cute little yellow rubber duck wearing a white headband that says "race" for a chance at a prize — and to raise money for the Autism Society of Virginia.

The big picture: It's the third year the ASV hosts the RVA Duck Race , which is part of its Festival of Inclusion aimed at being sensory-friendly for people with autism and developmental disabilities.

    • The event is from 11am-4pm and includes food, live performances and booths that list the senses a participant might experience when approaching them (such as sight, sound, touch, smell and taste).

If you're going for the ducks, the race begins at 3pm.

Editor's note: This story has been corrected to reflect that the RVA Duck Race and Festival of Inclusion is on Saturday (not Monday).
