    Richmond Labor Day weekend events: festivals, Horne Dogs and bus tours

    There's no better time to explore the city than when everyone's away at the beach for Labor Day weekend. So let's get to it.


    Thursday, Aug. 29

    ⚽️ The Richmond Kickers are hosting " Night at the Museums ," in which museums like the Black History Museum and the VMFA will have exhibits and a chance to win memberships. 7pm. Free with game ticket .

    Friday, Aug. 30

    The Sacred Ground Historical Reclamation Project is honoring the anniversary of Gabriel's Rebellion, when enslaved people planned to rise against slavery in Henrico, at Spring Park in Lakeside. 6:30-7:30pm. Free.

    🏳️‍🌈 The Park RVA is bringing back the Colours Party in honor of Richmond's historic LGBTQ+ party scene. 10pm-2am. $10.

    Saturday, Aug. 31

    🐈 Adopt a cat at Furbish Thrift 12-4pm. Free unless you get a kitten. Then it's $140.

    🎷 The 17th Annual Latin Jazz & Salsa Festival is taking over 17th Street Market this year. 12-8pm. Free.

    🎨 AfroFest at Dogwood Dell is celebrating African culture with drums, dancers and art. 1-7pm. Free.

    🎉 ABigAssDayParty is having a day party at PBR in the Fan to ring in the unofficial end of summer. 4pm. Tickets start at $15.

    👱🏻‍♀️ If you want to take it easy, bend and snap at the Byrd Theatre and watch " Legally Blonde. " 7pm. $9.

    Sunday, Sept. 1

    🌭 Cheers to three years of Horne Dogs , the hot dog pop-up, at Don't Look Back. 12-6pm. Free minus the hot dogs.

    💃🏻 All White Salsa Party at Väsen in Scott's Addition is for the bachata lovers who don't shy away from dance offs or summer cocktails. 4-8pm. Free.

    🚌 Honorable mention: On Monday, the Valentine has an LGBTQ Richmond Bus Tour exploring the events and people that shaped Richmond's LGBTQ+ community. 10am-1pm. $40.
