Richmond's new music venue gets a name change

Richmond's newest 7,500-seat music venue is opening next June, and it'll no longer be called Riverfront Amphitheater .

Why it matters: It's time to practice pronouncing "Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront," because that's the new name behind the site set to host 30-ish shows per season.

Driving the news: Insurance company Allianz Partners, along with Live Nation and Red Light Ventures, announced the change on Tuesday.

    • They declined to share how much money Allianz is paying for the naming rights, similarly to CarMax when they got the naming rights for Richmond's baseball stadium last month.
    • But the name will stick for at least 10 years, per an agreement.

What's next: Live Nation, one of the world's largest entertainment companies, plans to announce the artists you might see at Allianz Amphitheater in the coming weeks.

    • Similarly sized venues have booked artists like Tyler Childers and Dave Matthews Band, who are managed by the Charlottesville music exec who owns Red Light Ventures.
