Trump expected to make campaign stop in Utah

Former President Trump is making a campaign stop in Utah in August, the Deseret News reports .

Why it matters: Trump, who survived an assassination attempt earlier this month, has not received the same level of enthusiastic support from Utah Republican voters compared to other red states.

State of play: Trump is slated to attend an Aug. 29 fundraiser co-organized by Papa John's Pizza founder John Schnatter, per Deseret News.

    • It will be his first visit to the Beehive State since 2017 when he made drastic cuts to Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments.
    • He was initially scheduled to arrive in June for a fundraiser, according to the Deseret News, but the event coincided with the debate against President Biden .

The latest: In a surprising reversal, Gov. Spencer Cox, widely considered a moderate Republican, endorsed Trump last week after he was shot in the ear at a Pennsylvania campaign rally.

What we're watching: How Utah Republicans and donors will receive Trump following the assassination attempt and in the wake of Vice President Kamala Harris entering the race .

Between the lines: Harris attended a fundraiser in Park City in June.
