Brian Richey, of Casot on 15th & 15th, was named the winner of the "Daq Off" — a daiquiri competition organized by local bartenders.

Driving the news: The event on Monday, in its second year and hosted at Under Current Bar , featured 15 contestants from some of the best watering holes in Salt Lake City.

State of play: Richey's version — made with a jasmine-tea infused syrup and topped with "seafoam" — took the crown.

    • Clif Reagle, of Bar Nohm , came in second and Hannah "Chuck" Clement, of Quarters, won the people's choice award.
    • Each cocktail was judged on presentation, creativity and flavor.

The intrigue: Tyler Fernberg, who served as one of the judges, told Axios a mixologist's spin on the classic libation can reveal their prowess behind the bar.

    • Fernberg, a bartender at Quarters (Sugar House) and Water Witch, won the contest last year.
    • Daiquiris are generally made by mixing rum, citrus and a sweetener.
