Here's your chance to see a burlesque take on Star Wars

Han might have shot first, but if the latest burlesque show to hit San Francisco is any guide, Luke Skywalker definitely stripped first.

Why it matters: Star Wars has been a cultural touchstone for decades, but "The Empire Strips Back: A Burlesque Parody" shows these characters and scenes in a new light (and with a lot less clothing).

• Remember when Princess Leia rescued Han Solo from the slab of carbonite? Imagine that, but with a lot more gyrating from an alien-masked Greedo. Your childhood will never be the same.

My thought bubble: The production values were fantastic, and the amazing dancers and sets made you forget just how silly the concept is.

Yes, but: This is definitely a traditional burlesque show, without the subversive, queer twist that you might expect from San Francisco (and a few tired lines from the MC that don't live up to the first-rate burlesque hosts you see elsewhere in the scene).

• "The Empire Strips Back" runs until Sept. 8 at the Great Star Theater.
