"Over 80%" of Washington's delegates back Harris as Democratic nominee

More than three-fourths of Washington's delegates to the Democratic National Convention plan to support Vice President Kamala Harris as the party's presidential nominee, state party officials said after conducting an informal survey this week.

Why it matters: Since President Biden announced Sunday he is ending his campaign , Democrats across the country have coalesced around Harris — and local Democrats appear to be no exception.

Zoom in: "In our unofficial count, we are seeing well over 80% supporting VP Harris," Stephen Reed, spokesperson for the Washington state Democrats, wrote in an email Tuesday.

    • The state's 111 Democratic convention delegates will hold a meeting on Thursday to decide whether they'll formally endorse anyone, and will make an announcement afterward, Reed added.

Follow the money: Reed said Washington's Democratic Party also saw a fundraising boost after Biden dropped out, racking up more than 900 new donations between Sunday and Tuesday morning, totaling nearly $38,000.

    • That's the second-most successful 48-hour fundraising period in the organization's history, trailing only the days right before the 2020 general election, he said.

What's next: Before Aug. 7, Democrats across the country plan to hold a " virtual roll call " where nearly 4,000 party delegates will vote online to formally decide the party's nominee for president.

    • That compressed timeline will make it hard for anyone other than Harris to lead the party's ticket, Axios' Hans Nichols reports .
    • Delegates are set to attend the Democratic National Convention in person from Aug. 19-22 in Chicago .
