Seattle sees a broader variety of weather in October than in any other month, according to the National Weather Service Seattle .

State of play: Historically, the chance of rain nearly doubles between Oct. 1 and 31, from 28% to 54% observed rain, per the weather service .

    • The city also loses more than 90 minutes of daylight over the 31 days of this month, per Time and Date .

What they're saying: "It's the shoulder season when we see the transition from summer to winter," weather service meteorologist Kirby Cook told Axios.

    • It can still be "quite warm" as we saw this past weekend, he said, but we can also "see much cooler and wetter conditions."
    • It's also when Seattle starts to find itself in the "storm track," he said.

Case in point: A storm system that was expected to arrive Monday should bring rain to most of Western Washington on Tuesday, he said.

    • Off-and-on showers are forecast for much of the week, Cook said, "and it will definitely feel more like fall."
