"Don't make it weird," Florida artist's new Harris-Walz campaign signs urge voters

St. Petersburg artist Chad Mize did not just fall out of a coconut tree .

Yes, but: President Joe Biden's reelection campaign just wasn't doing it for him.

Why it matters: Vice President Kamala Harris and her VP pick, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz , have reenergized Mize, and he's turning that enthusiasm into art once again.

Driving the news: Mize, the brain behind the iconic " Paris London Tokyo St. Pete " shirt and other beloved local artwork, unveiled three Harris-Walz yard signs Friday on Instagram .

    • One borrows from Walz's viral comments calling former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, "just weird" during an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"Don't make it weird," the sign says, above "Harris/Walz 2024."

    • The phrasing also draws from Trump's "Make America Great Again" catchphrase, Mize tells Axios.
    • And, to be clear, he says, "it's still ok to be weird. Just not bad weird."

The big picture: Harris' move to the top of the ticket has reenergized left-leaning voters across the country, with states including Florida seeing a surge in campaign volunteers.

What he's saying: "It seems fresh and very opposite of the other side," Mize says of the new campaign.

    • Whether it's enough to swing the increasingly Republican Florida blue, Mize isn't sure. His home St. Pete is a liberal enclave in an otherwise red county.
    • "But we can only have hope, right?" he says.

What's next: The signs will be available for $12 each, likely by late next week, at Astra & Friends in downtown St. Pete.

    • About $4-5 from each sale will go to the Harris-Walz campaign. Mize is using some of the proceeds to pay for the signs but is donating his time, he says.
