More details have been released on an Alabama dog fighting ring discovered by law enforcement officers on Saturday.

Mobile County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they executed a search warrant at 13020 Williams Avenue in Axis, Alabama.

There they found evidence indicating a large dog fighting operation. Deputies arrested 29 people, rescued 32 dogs and seized 11 firearms along with approximately 15 pound of marijuana, authorities said.

Deputies said they are still searching for the person they believe was responsible for setting up the dog fight, Jeff Marks Jr.

Marks reportedly fled the scene as deputies arrived.

“Mr. Marks has a lengthy history with law enforcement,” Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch. “His arrest history is full of drug trafficking charges,

domestic violence, and assault charges. We are looking for him now and if anyone has any information as to his whereabouts, please call our office 251-574-8633 and let us know.”

Deputies said the Mobile County Animal Shelter is currently housing the dogs that were rescued from the scene. The additional influx of dogs has caused the shelter to be over capacity, deputies said.

To help alleviate that overcrowding, the sheriff’s office encourages responsible adoption of the dogs that have been at the shelter prior to the influx of dogs from the dog fighting bust.
