    65-year-old man arrested after allegedly killing son, daughter-in-law in Axton

    PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR )– The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office reports a man was arrested in connection to a double shooting in Axton on Tuesday, June 25.

    The sheriff says dispatch received a call at approximately 9:30 p.m. that two subjects had been shot on the 470 block of River Ridge Rd. When deputies arrived, they found two unresponsive individuals, identified as 39-year-old Ashley Marie Roberts and 41-year-old Jason Roberts of Roanoke, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead on the scene.

    The sheriff identified 65-year-old William Lester Roberts as the suspect and he was taken into custody on the scene without an incident. He has been charged with:

    • Two counts Second Degree Murder
    • Two counts Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
    • Discharging firearms within a dwelling
    Man arrested in connection to body found on Garfield Ave in Lynchburg

    The sheriff’s office reports the suspect is the father and father-in-law of the two victims.

    William Roberts was taken to the Pittsylvania County Jail and is being held without bond.
