Ayden-Grifton wins second consecutive Quiz Bowl title

For the second consecutive year, a team from Ayden-Grifton High School has won the Sheppard Memorial Library Quiz Bowl.

The team beat J.H. Rose 175 to 65 in the final round of the Feb. 24 competition, held at Greenville’s City Hall. Ayden-Grifton will advance to regional competition, to be hosted by Lee County Libraries in April.

The most recent win is Ayden-Grifton’s fifth in a decade of competition. Returning from last year’s championship team, in addition to coaches Will Tyer and Brian Saleeby, are members Owen Baxter, Carson Cornwell, Madison Cornwell and Kaitlyn Wood. They were joined for the 2024 competition by students Kenzie Letchworth, Izzy Walls and Olivia Baker.

In addition to Ayden-Grifton and Rose, teams from D.H. Conley, Innovation Early College, and Pitt Early College and John Paul II Catholic High School were part of the competition.
