Ayden Rotary Club honors distinguished Paul Harris Fellow recipient

AYDEN — The Ayden Rotary Club announced last week that one of its members has earned recognition as a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. The prestigious distinction celebrates their unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes and their significant contributions to the community and beyond, the club said.

The recognition went to Melvin Worthington, a dedicated Rotarian who has exemplified the core values of Rotary: service, integrity and fellowship. His tireless efforts have touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on our local communities, the club said.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition, named after Rotary founder Paul Harris, acknowledges individuals who contribute at least $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. These funds support vital programs that address critical needs, promote peace, and advance education worldwide.

Worthington’s journey as a Paul Harris Fellow began with his initial contribution, but it didn’t end there, the club said. His continued commitment has earned him additional recognition, symbolized by the stone on his Paul Harris Fellow pin.

“In the spirit of fellowship, we invite you to join us in celebrating Melvin Worthington’s achievements,” the club’s announcement said. “His generosity has funded clean water projects, literacy initiatives and life-changing scholarships. Through his actions, he has embodied the essence of Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.”

A special ceremony was held on Feb. 22 at the Ayden Rotary Club meeting. Club Secretary Melvin Loftin presented Worthington with his well-deserved Paul Harris Fellow pin.

“We celebrate Melvin Worthington’s commitment to making the world a better place — one act of kindness at a time,” the announcement said. “Together, we continue to uphold the legacy of Paul Harris and create positive change in our community.”
