A Buckeye man was arrested late Saturday evening after exchanging gunfire with officers during what investigators believe to be a domestic violence incident.

Carissa Planalp, a Buckeye Police Department spokesperson, said officers responded to a home near Miller Road and Burgess Lane at around 11:30 p.m. after a woman told police her husband was armed with a gun and threatened to kill her.

The woman walked out of her home as officers arrived, and her husband, Edward Rivas, 51, followed and began shooting at officers. Planalp said at least one officer returned fire as Rivas went back inside the home. No officers were injured.

Just after 1 a.m., Rivas walked out of the home and was arrested without incident.

Planalp said Rivas was uninjured. He was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of six counts of assault, one count of use of weapons and explosives, and one count of offenses against public order, according to online jail records.
