ASU baseball season ending with record third straight NCAA Baseball Tournament miss

There is no denying the rich history of the Arizona State baseball program, which includes five national championships, 22 College World Series appearances and 41 NCAA Tournament appearances since the sport began varsity play in 1959.

But the Sun Devils are likely to set a dubious mark when the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament Bracket is unveiled on Monday.

Barring a very unlikely selection, the ASU baseball team will miss the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year in 2024, which will mark the first time that has happened since the Sun Devils failed to earn a tournament berth in the first five seasons as a varsity program from 1959-63.

Willie Bloomquist's team does not show up in NCAA Tournament projections after its 0-2 performance in the Pac-12 Tournament. ASU likely needed a strong showing in that tourney to earn a spot.

This is Bloomquist's third season as the Arizona State baseball coach. The team went 26-32 in 2022, 32-23 in 2023 and 32-26 in 2024.

Some Arizona State baseball fans vented over the state of the program:

Other ASU baseball fans thought the future of the program looked bright:

How do you feel about the state of the Sun Devils baseball program right now?
