Here are the roadway closures planned for this weekend in metro Phoenix

Portions of three major Phoenix metro highways will be closed this weekend for construction projects, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Impacted roadways include nearly 20 miles of Interstate 10 near Tempe, and portions of Interstate 17 in north Phoenix and Loop 202 in Chandler.

Entrance and exit ramps within the affected areas will also be closed, and some lanes will be narrowed. ADOT advised drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time to navigate detours across the Valley.

This is what drivers should know before traveling this weekend in the Valley.

Lengthy portions of I-10 closed near Tempe

Starting Friday, Aug. 16 at 10 p.m., until Monday, Aug. 19 at 4 a.m., the westbound lanes of I-10 will be closed between the I-17 interchange near Sky Harbor International Airport and the Loop 202, a nearly 20-mile stretch that passed through portions of Phoenix, Tempe, Ahwatukee and Chandler.

The closure would allow for crews continuing work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project, according to ADOT.

All westbound I-10 on-ramps between Loop 202 and I-17 interchange would be closed throughout the weekend.

Some on-ramps would close two hours early than other Friday, including, the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard, and westbound U.S. 60 on-ramps at McClintock Drive, Rural Road, and Mill Avenue, according to ADOT.

Westbound I-10 traffic approaching the closure can detour onto eastbound Loop 202 to northbound Loop 101, and westbound Loop 202 to reach Sky Harbor Airport and downtown Phoenix.

ADOT also suggested drivers detour using westbound and northbound Loop 202 to the I-10 near 59th Avenue in west Phoenix. Westbound I-10 drivers from outside the Valley who are headed further than the Phoenix area can use the westbound Interstate-8 to northbound State Route 85 in Gila Bend to reach the I-10 in Buckeye.

Southbound I-17 closed in north Phoenix

Beginning on Friday, Aug. 16 at 10 p.m., until Monday, Aug. 19 at 5 a.m., the southbound lanes of Interstate-17 would be closed at Jomax Road for pavement improvement, according to ADOT.

The I-17 before the closure would be narrowed to one lane between Loop 303 and Jomax Road.

Drivers would follow a detour route using exit and entrance ramps at Jomax Road to bypass the closure, according to ADOT.

ADOT strongly advised drivers to stay on the primary detour route avoiding any nearby streets and to consider traveling during early morning or late night hours.

ADOT added that while weekly closures would continue to impact the area for the next few months, the following dates weekends would not have any closures: Aug. 23-26 and Aug. 30-Sept. 3.

Eastbound Loop 202 closed in Chandler

Starting Friday, Aug. 16 at 10 p.m., until Monday, Aug. 19 at 5 a.m., the eastbound lanes of Loop 202 will be closed between Arizona Avenue and Gilbert Road for freeway widening, according to ADOT.

The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Dobson and Alma roads will be closed. The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Price Road will be closed from Saturday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m., until Monday, Aug. 19 at 5 a.m., according to ADOT.

The westbound Loop 202 HOV lane will be closed between Gilbert and Alma School roads between Saturday, Aug. 17 at 4 p.m., until Sunday, Aug. 18 at 8 a.m., for freeway lighting work, according to ADOT.

ADOT recommended drivers take an alternate route such as eastbound Pecos or Germann roads.

Westbound US 60 narrowed to three lanes in Mesa

On Friday, Aug. 16 at 9 p.m., until Monday, Aug. 19 at 5 a.m., the westbound lanes of U.S. 60 will be narrowed to three lanes between Gilbert and Dobson roads for pavement maintenance, according to ADOT.

Westbound U.S. 60 on-ramps between Gilbert and Dobson roads will also be closed, according to ADOT.

Detoured drivers should consider exiting ahead of the closure and proceeding on Southern Avenue or Baseline Road to access the freeway beyond the closure.
