Mesa Mayor John Giles will speak Tuesday at the 2024 Democratic National Convention and will nationally make his case to Republican voters as to why Vice President Kamala Harris deserves their support.

It was not immediately clear what time Giles will take the stage. The convention began Monday in Chicago and will air live on its website between 4 to 8 p.m. Arizona time (7 to 11 p.m. Eastern) through Thursday.

"The stakes for this election are clear, and I plan to do everything I can to elect the Vice President, including speaking at the Democratic National Convention to make the case directly to my fellow Republicans,” Giles said in a written statement.

He'll be joined by other former Republican lawmakers from across the country who will speak at the convention.

Giles was thrust into the national spotlight after he crossed party lines and endorsed Harris' White House bid.

It started July 29 when Giles penned a guest column in The Arizona Republic and continued to make his case nationally in a series of broadcast interviews. Giles was tapped to co-chair the Republicans for Harris committee in Arizona.

He was the lone Republican to speak at the Harris campaign rally in Glendale on Aug. 9.

Giles is a registered Republican but holds a nonpartisan office and has never been elected as a Republican. Nonetheless, he’s the most prominent Republican still in office in Arizona to publicly endorse Harris.

He is wrapping up 10 years of continuous service as mayor of Arizona's third most populous city.

Funny how all these people think they’re relevant, nobody, especially someone like him persuades anyone to change their mind!
