Man hit, killed by freight train near Sun City

A man was killed after he was hit by a freight train Friday near Sun City, authorities said.

There was little immediate information about how the incident happened. Authorities didn’t release the man’s name.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said Friday evening that detectives were going to investigate.

The area around 107th and Grand avenues was closed and is anticipated to stay that way for several hours, the sheriff’s office said. Officials asked people to avoid the area.
