Wednesday, Sept. 25, is National Daughters Day, but what is that?

Daughters are always special members of the family. They are a brother's favorite person to pull pranks on and a ray of sunshine in so many parents' lives.

If you are a parent, consider taking your daughter out on a date, either for a meal or to a park, to celebrate on Wednesday. It'll probably earn you brownie points at home. Mothers, especially, can use today as a special reason to connect with their daughters, having likely lived a similar experience. Today, moms can share words of encouragement and wisdom.

Here's an explanation of National Daughters Day, and a list of similar national holidays.

    What is National Daughters Day?

National Daughters Day is celebrated every year on Sept. 25. It is a day to celebrate the gift of daughters, and the relationships we share with them.

Everyone in a family will share a different relationship with a daughter. Mothers and fathers especially share different but special relationships with their daughters, which is celebrated.

It's not to be confused with National Sons and Daughters Day, which is celebrated every year on Aug. 11.

    When is National Sons Day?

To all the brothers out there who are jealous of their sisters, don't fret, your holiday is coming up soon. National Sons Day is celebrated every year on Sept. 28.

If your sisters get pampered today, don't worry, it's only a few days until it will be your turn.

When are all the family holidays?

Parents, you already had your share of celebrations this year. But it's never too early to look ahead at Mother's and Father's Day dates next year.

There are also plenty of other holidays to celebrate familial bloodlines. Though some can seem confusing or unnecessary, they all are intended to celebrate the ones we love.

Here's a list of all the familial-themed holidays:

    • Mother's Day is celebrated every year on the second Sunday in May. In 2025, the exact date is May 11.
    • Father's Day is celebrated every year on the third Sunday in June. In 2025, the exact date is June 15.
    • National Sisters' Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday in August. In 2025, the exact date is August 3.
    • National Brothers' Day is celebrated every year on May 24.
    • National Siblings Day is celebrated every year on April 10.
    • National Sons and Daughters Day is celebrated every year on Aug. 11.
    • National Daughters Day is celebrated every year on Sept. 25.
    • National Sons Day is celebrated every year on Sept. 28.
    • Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the second Sunday in September. This year, that day was Sept. 8. In 2025, the date is Sept. 7.
