5 things that kept Phoenix Suns superstar (and birthday boy) Kevin Durant busy this summer

Phoenix Suns superstar forward Kevin Durant deserves a happy birthday Sunday after having the best offseason possible.

In winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Durant, 36 today, became the only men's basketball player in history to win four gold medals, solidifying his legacy as the all-time best international basketball player. He spent a good deal of time on social media, too, engaging his passion for interacting.

But between the Olympics and Suns training camp, which starts Tuesday, Durant most certainly kept busy. Five ventures in particular helped Durant pass the rest of the summer as he prepared for training camp.

Kevin Durant ripped the Dallas Cowboys

On Sept. 6, Durant was on the 'Up & Adams' show on FanDuel TV and MSG Networks . Host Kay Adams asked which NFL team Durant would relegate if he could relegate a team, and Durant said he would relegate the Dallas Cowboys. Durant, from Washington D.C., is a Commanders fan.

He then pondered on the show as to why he does not like the Cowboys, and he thinks it is "because a lot of people where I'm from in D.C. have become Cowboys fans. It's probably like 75% people in Washington D.C., in my group of people that are Cowboys fans. And I just hate that they don't stay loyal to the crib."

Adams asked him, "What's gonna happen when they come crawling back after Jayden (Daniels) pops off?"

"They gonna have to stay on that side," Durant said. "We're not letting them on the bus."

Speaking of FanDuel, Durant announced a partnership with the sportsbook through the football season that same day:

During his announcement, Durant said that during this partnership he would "show how much bias I have for my Commanders, pick some NFL games and have some fun."

Durant has always been a gym rat, but the best part about this offseason was that he included the game's youngest and brightest stars in his training. It was revealed on the Orlando Magic's X (formerly Twitter) account that Durant trained with Magic All-Star power forward Paolo Banchero as Banchero enters his third year in the association:

Durant was seen working with many other young players as well. That includes Suns rookie and 2024 first-round pick Ryan Dunn, who was an ACC All-Defense selection this past season:

Kevin Durant played NBA 2K25

When Durant laces 'em up as much as he does, he needs some downtime as well. He and the NFL's New York Jets star Sauce Gardner worked together to show the world what the new features of NBA 2K are with NBA 2K25 coming out. In addition, he and Gardner predicted and discussed player ratings in the new game, as well as Durant's top starting five in NBA 2K25.

Durant's top NBA 2K25 starting five were Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Doncic, Doncic's new teammate Klay Thompson, Durant himself, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and Philadelphia 76ers superstar center Joel Embiid. Credit to Boardroom and the NBA 2K franchise , who made this collaboration between Durant and Gardner possible. Especially since the two even went at it head-to-head in the new game:

Kevin Durant attended Washington Commanders practice

Lastly, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reported that Durant attended Washington Commanders practice on Friday, two days ahead of their meeting with the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale at State Farm Stadium. One of the most famous Commanders fans out there, Durant likely wasn't planning to be on Phoenix's side for the Cardinals-Commanders game Sunday.

He certainly will, however, on Tuesday when he embarks on his second training camp with the Suns. It will be Durant's second full season in Phoenix, as he returns following his second-team All-NBA campaign last year. Coming off an NBA season where he scored 27.1 points per game in a full season for the first time since the 2015-16 season, as well as coming off of an Olympics run where he took home the gold on 54/51.9/93.8 shooting splits.

It's been a busy summer for the birthday boy.
