Arizona Cardinals drop 9-year veteran wide receiver as Zay Jones returns from suspension

The Arizona Cardinals have officially released nine-year NFL veteran wide receiver Chris Moore.

The move comes after wide receiver Zay Jones returned from his five-game suspension that he faced for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy . Moore appeared in all five games for the Cardinals for a total of 27 snaps, but was never targeted in his first and only year with Arizona. Moore did not play any snaps on special teams with Arizona, something he had done every other year of his career.

Jones joins the team after coming off of a 2023 campaign with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he played nine games and caught 34 passes for 321 receiving yards and two touchdown catches. His best season was 2022 when he grabbed a career-high 82 passes for a career-high 823 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. Moore's career year also came in 2022 when he had a career-high 48 catches for a career-high 548 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Moore was not the only wideout on the Cardinals to not receive any targets. Only three wide receivers have had targets this year for Arizona. Those three being Marvin Harrison Jr. (35), Michael Wilson (26) and Greg Dortch (22).

None have more than 19 catches through these first five games, with none having more than 279 receiving yards. Harrison Jr. has four touchdown catches on the year, but the rest of the Cardinals' receivers account for one combined (Wilson). As a result of the performance from this wide receiver room, Jones will have a legitimate chance at meaningful playing time as he returns to the field.
