Should ASU football's Cam Skattebo be a Heisman contender after Sun Devils' 5-1 start?

    By Jeremy Cluff, Arizona Republic,

Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo has carried the ball 133 times for 773 yards on the season. He has eight rushing touchdowns. He's been a pivotal part of the Sun Devils' surprise 5-1 start .

And he's finally showing up in some odds for the Heisman Trophy, an award given to the best college football player in the country.

DraftKings Sportsbook has Skattebo, a senior, at +20000 in odds to win the Heisman, making him a long shot at best right now (he's tied for 28th with eight other players in the odds).

But Skattebo is at least in the DraftKings odds. FanDuel Sportsbook and BetMGM Sportsbook still don't include the dynamic ASU football running back in their Heisman odds.

Should Cam Skattebo be a Heisman contender? Social media has thoughts

Social media had thoughts on Skattebo's Heisman candidacy after his 22-carry, 158-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Sun Devils' 27-19 upset of No. 17 Utah last week.

How Cam Skattebo compares to other Heisman hopeful running backs

Boise State's Ashton Jeanty is the favorite to win the Heisman right now, at +170 odds according to DraftKings, and there's no arguing from us.

Jeanty has carried the ball 126 times for 1,248 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. He leads the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns.

Skattebo is fifth in the nation in rushing yards among RBs and 11th in rushing scores for running backs.

But there's one category that Skattebo leads the nation in: Missed tackles.

The ASU running back has forced 49 missed tackles, while Jeanty has forced 48.

Does Cam Skattebo deserve more Heisman consideration, recognition nationally?

Some national recognition has come Skattebo's way after his impressive performances this season, but not enough, according to some Arizona State fans.

Interestingly, on3.com left Skattebo off its list of the Top 10 running backs in the country after Week 7 (we have no idea how).

BVM Sports also didn't list Skattebo among 10 running backs who could win the Doak Walker Award given to the nation's top running back (even though Skattebo was named the Doak Walker National Player of the Week for his performance against Utah).

ESPN recently put out a list of the Top 25 players in the country as well and did not include Skattebo, which irked some ASU football followers.

Do you think Cam Skattebo should be in the Heisman conversation for his impressive play so far this season?
