Sammy Hagar's one-of-a-kind Ferrari sells for this record price in Arizona

Sammy Hagar's 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari sold for a staggering $4,675,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale fall 2024 auto auction on Saturday, Oct. 12.

    That's nearly $4 million more than the weekend's second-biggest sale — $880,000 for a 2019 Ford GT.

According to Barrett-Jackson officials, the highest price paid for a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari prior to this sale was $3,910,000 in August 2022 at Broad Arrow Group Auctions at the Monterey Jet Center in California.

Hagar, who celebrated his 77th birthday a day after selling the car, told USA TODAY "Quite honestly, it was exhausting being part of the bidding war. I'm thinking the whole time, do I really want to do this? Seller's remorse and all. When that gavel came down and they said 'Sold!,' I wasn't sure if I was heartbroken or relieved. What an experience."

Hagar flew in for the auction on his private jet from his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and met the car's new owner before flying back after the sale closed to play his annual birthday bash.

"I was so happy after I met the person that bought my car," Hagar told USA TODAY. "He was so cool. He sees the car the way I always saw the car. Which is that we're just being caretakers of something special, and then you pass it on to another caretaker. So you're just looking in each case for someone who will preserve and take care of the legacy of a car that has this level of perfection."

Why Sammy Hagar pulled his LaFerrari off the auction block in January

Hagar had originally planned to sell the car at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, but held it back to have a new high-voltage battery installed.

Hagar spoke to The Arizona Republic in January about the decision to hold off on the sale.

"All of a sudden, lights were coming on," Hagar told The Republic . "We thought, 'Oh, the battery must be getting low.' We charged it up. It wouldn't charge. We pulled it out of the car, took a look and said, 'Well, the battery's going. I'm not gonna put this thing out there and sell it to a guy for the kind of money they're paying for it."

Hagar told The Republic he was glad the battery started going when it did.

"I can't imagine somebody buying that car and saying, 'Yeah, you gotta wait 16 weeks for a new battery,'" he said. "It would've been horrible. So I'm so happy that it happened when it did... Some guy would have paid that kind of money for that car and said, 'You idiot, man, you sold me a car that had a problem.' The car is gonna be better than it was because it's gonna have a brand new battery in it."

Hagar rocked the Barrett-Jackson crowd with Michael Anthony in January

Hagar attended the Barrett-Jackson auction in January, crashing the stage with Michael Anthony (the Van Halen bassist Hagar introduced as his “partner in crime”) to join Red Voodoo (a band whose name was taken from a Hagar solo album) on a raucous set of songs associated with the singer, from Van Halen's "Finish What Ya Started" to “I Can’t Drive 55."

“For me, this is like (expletive) heaven,” a beaming Hagar told the fans. “I would rather be here than at a (expletive) Rolling Stones concert. All these cars?!"

Hagar was in town to introduce the Arizona market to his award-winning Sammy's Beach Bar Cocktail Co . sparkling rum canned cocktails at WestWorld of Scottsdale.
