Former NFL player Jay Cutler was arrested on multiple charges Thursday, according to TMZ , including DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

Multiple sites confirmed the arrest , which occurred in Franklin, Tennessee, about 21 miles south of Nashville.

According to TMZ, Cutler, 41, was also arrested for failure to exercise due care and violation of implied consent law.

TMZ reported that Cutler allegedly rear-ended another vehicle. According to the site, police officers responding to the accident "noticed a strong smell of booze. They also claim Cutler was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes."

A police spokesperson told CBS News that Cutler refused to take a sobriety test, so he was taken to a hospital where a blood sample was obtained through a search warrant.

According to the spokesperson, Cutler had two firearms in his vehicle, one of which was a loaded pistol.

Cutler was released Thursday night on a $5,000 bond, according to police.
