Marvin Harrison Jr. will play against Chargers on Monday Night Football

Marvin Harrison Jr. will play in Monday night’s game against the Chargers, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon announced.

Harrison left last week’s loss to Green Bay after sustaining a concussion on a second-quarter incompletion. He pleaded on the sideline with trainers to return to the game but was ultimately sent to the locker room and did not return.

Harrison was a non-contact participant in practice Thursday but was upgraded to a full participant Friday ahead of Saturday’s announcement.

Gannon also announced that the Cardinals will not activate first-round rookie defensive lineman Darius Robinson, who is halfway through his three-week practice window as he prepares to return from injured reserve. Backup linebacker Owen Pappoe is out with a hip injury.

For Harrison, Monday provides an opportunity to jumpstart his season. Through six games, he has 17 receptions on 37 targets for 279 yards and four touchdowns. But outside of an explosive Week 2 performance against the Rams, he has not topped 64 yards — a moderately disappointing output after he was selected fourth overall in April’s draft.

The Cardinals’ receiving room also is bolstered by the return of Zay Jones. Jones was suspended for the first five weeks of the season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy and missed Week 6 as he ramped up toward his return.
