Western US faces wildfires as millions under heat warnings
Several western US states including California and Utah were battling wildfires on Monday as millions of Americans in the region were once again under heat alerts. Their efforts were complicated by baking temperatures that hit the western United States over the weekend, with more than 30 million people affected by heat warnings in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Washington state.

At the March 26, 2024, council meeting, the Monterey Park City Council awarded an exclusive franchise contract for residential waste collection and recycling services to Ware Disposal. Black woman dies in California prison from heat over 110 degrees
A 42-year-old Black woman, Adrienne Boulware, has died in the custody of the California Department of Corrections at the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla. On July 4, prison guards exposed Boulware to extreme temperatures outdoors during a heatwave for 15 minutes, leaving her with just a small glass of water in the over 110 F heat. Boulware began to exhibit symptoms of heat exhaustion almost immediately after returning indoors. Two days later, she passed away while receiving medical care.
