City Offers Its Take on Homeless Count Results: Slight Decline in Number of People Sleeping on the Street

The west side of Los Angeles County, which includes Santa Monica, saw a nearly 20 percent decrease in the total population of people experiencing homelessness, according to numbers released Friday by the Los Angeles County Homeless Services Authority, or LAHSA.
Family of retired California deputy missing in Greece call off search, suspect foul play
The family of a retired California sheriff’s deputy missing in Greece said that the search for him has ended but that they fear foul play is involved in his disappearance. Albert Calibet, who left the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2018, was on vacation and getting ready to head to the Greek island of Amorgos when he vanished on June 11. His family said he had repeatedly visited the island since 2009.
L.A. County Superior Court offers buyouts to staff due to funding cutbacks

Sonora, CA — As Independence Day nears, fire officials are warning that fireworks are banned in many parts of the Mother Lode. At this week’s Sonora City Council meeting, Fire Chief Aimee New reminded, “All fireworks are illegal in the city limits, including ‘safe and sane.’ So, please, do not bring any fireworks into the city limits. You will get fined.”
