A student at Highline High School in Burien experienced a drug overdose on campus on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

The school’s Safety & Security department, the school nurse, and paramedics responded promptly to the situation at around 10:18 a.m.

Fire department units responded to a report of a 15-16 year old male at Highline High School.

On arrival, crews were lead by staff to a student that was unconscious and unresponsive, with a pulse.

Narcan was administered, and the student responded to the medication.

Reports were of an unknown cause as to what precipitated the state the student was found in, with an unknown medical history. Medical interventions by staff and EMS resulted in the student walking under his own power to an ambulance for transport to an area hospital. This was not a paramedic transport.

“We ask that everyone respects the student’s privacy and refrains from speculation regarding the incident,” officials said. “Drug overdose is now one of the leading causes of death for teenagers. This is an important reminder to talk with your student about the dangers of drug use. Here are some resources that may help you have a conversation with your student.”
