Highline High School opened its football season Friday night, Sept. 6,2024 with a decisive 42-27 victory over Mt. Rainier the first-ever “Waterfront Cup” at Highline Memorial Stadium.

Mt. Rainier – in the 4A conference – fought hard but was unable to close the gap as Highline’s 3A defense held firm in key moments.

Pirates senior quarterback Ronan Rasmussen threw 16-24 passes for 327 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The win gives Highline a strong 1-0 start to the season as they look ahead to their big crosstown rival “Battle of Burien” matchup against the Kennedy Catholic Lancers on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at Highline Memorial Stadium.

Mt. Rainier next plays South Kitsap at 7 p.m. on Friday night, Sept. 13.
