    “A Slash of Color”

The Tricolored heron is a pretty water bird that lives in the Americas. It has gray upperparts and white underparts with reddish stripes on its neck. During the breeding season, it becomes even more colorful, with a bright blue bill and black tip, bluish-purple neck feathers, deep pink legs, a crest of white on its head, and violet neck and shoulder plumage. It is very slim, with a long bill and neck and long legs, and often wades belly-deep within coastal lagoons.
