    HARRISTOWN NEWS: New event planned for Father’s Day

    Hopefully you are noticing a decrease in the persistent humming sound of the cicadas as you step over the ones in your yards and driveways. It has been a journey.

    Church News

    Bishop Chenner Smith, and the St. Luke congregation thanks you all for your support and prayers for their Friends and Family Day.

    Call to Pray meets the first and third Thursdays at Shiloh Baptist Church, at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome.

    Community Interests

    Parents, check your school newsletter, the library, the YMCA, Parks and Recreation sites and Facebook for an abundance of summer activities for your children. Some are offered free of charge. Keep your children occupied this summer.

    Tina Townsend, community outreach coordinator of Uwharrie Bank, and Dee Pankey-Thompson, realtor, want to give you helpful tools to align your path to becoming a homeowner.

    Come to the free workshop on June 15 at the Stanly County YMCA Pavilion from 10-11 a.m. RSVP by June 7, at 704-322-8435. There will be refreshments and giveaways.

    Don’t miss the Annual Community Grillmaster Showdown on June 1 from 12-3 p.m. Doors will open open at 11:30 a.m. Entry fee us $15. Lots of featured delicacies, DJ, karaoke, games and raffle.

    E.E. Waddell will also host a Father’s Day Cookout on June 14 at 5:30 p.m. Come and be blessed by good food, songs and a guest speaker. This replaces the annual breakfast.
