Wallace, Strickland earn 3rd All-Big East honors for Firebirds

Southern Nash High seniors Keegan Wallace and Blake Strickland each were named to the 2-A/3-A Big East Conference’s all-conference team for baseball for a third straight year.
The two were the only players on the 23-player list from Southern Nash, which finished tied for fifth at 5-7 in Big East play and 11-15 overall. Freshman Jeremiah Battle was accorded honorable mention from Southern Nash.
Strickland led Southern Nash in batting average (.321), runs (20) and hits (24) while Wallace set the Firebirds’ standard in triples (3), slugging percentage (.484) and on-base percentage. Strickland also went 4-5 on the mound with a 3,97 ERA and 45 strikeouts in a team-high 47 2/3 innings pitched. Wallace worked 12 innings on the mound with a 1-1 record and a 7.58 ERA.

Big East-champion Bunn and top 3-A seed Northern Nash led the All-Big East selections with six each. Wildcats sophomore Caleb Johnson was voted Big East Player of the Year by league coaches. He was joined on the elite unit by Wildcats teammates Elijah Austin, Jared Hagwood, Ethan Pearce and Owen Mitchell.
Northern Nash was represented by Peyton Clay, Brady Jenkins, Logan Denton, Tristan Murray and Marquis Nicholson.
Bunn’s Patrick Warren and Northern Nash’s Joey Keefe shared the Coach of the Year honor.
Honored from third-place Roanoke Rapids were Collin Elias, Wil White, Shep Fowler and Maddox Bullock while Franklinton placed Pete Honse, Aiden Nash and Ethan Leblanc.
Fifth-place Nash Central only had three picks but one was senior Colby Lewis, who was voted Big East Pitcher of the Year after posting an 0.68 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 62 innings. The Bulldogs also garnered all-conference acclaim for Landyn Holt and Shea Whitley. Last-place Rocky Mount was represented by Jack McKellar.
Honorable mentions were also meted out to Bunn’s Keagan Price, Northern Nash’s Dominick Robbins, Roanoke Rapids’ Carson Duncan, Franklinton’s Luke Wilson, Nash Central’s Landon Dillane and Rocky Mount’s Christian Buck.
