“Beacon of Hope”: Rotary Club hears about community ministry from First Baptist Church

The Bainbridge Rotary Club met for their weekly meeting at the Kirbo Center on Tuesday. The guest speaker of the day was Chris Humphries, senior pastor of First Baptist Church, who was joined by Julian Sims, Pastor of Music and Senior Adults, as well as Andrew Donaldson, Pastor of Youth and Family.

Humphries emphasized the church’s mission statement, that being, “Reach Out, Build Up, Send Forth”.

“So when I got to Bainbridge, the first thing that came to my heart, really, was seeing all the homeless men in our city,” Humphries said. “There’s a lot of homeless men in our city, I know I’m not telling you anything you don’t know.”

He emphasized his desire for First Baptist to be a “beacon of hope”, hence the church logo being a lighthouse, as well as their community outreach. Some of the outreach ministries the church has performed that he listed included helping with the Friendship House, giving out free hot dogs, as well as working with the Salvation Army. One project currently in the works is the “Beacon on Boulevard”, a proposed shelter for the homeless.

After Humphries spoke, Donaldson took to the podium. He spoke briefly about the Fellowship of Christian Athletes ministry.

“What we love about it, what I love about it,” he said, “is the purpose of FCA is to reach every student and every coach with the Gospel of Jesus, and to see them in a thriving relationship with the Lord.”

After both men had finished speaking, they took questions from the audience.
