The Bainbridge Rec Soccer team’s season is currently well underway, with four teams in the adult league. The teams and players aren’t just Bainbridge and Decatur County locals, with some coming from nearby, including Cairo, Thomasville, and Tallahassee.

In last Thursday’s game, Sarmiento’s Service and Maintenance team won over the Sunday League, 7-3, while Purple Rain lost to Barrio’s & Sons Masonry 1-4.

The Senior Program Supervisor, Carlos Becerra, spoke to the Post-Searchlight about how things have been going so far.

“The season has been competitive,” he said, “ we have two teams tied for first place and the other two teams close behind them too.” That said, he added there was no way of knowing who will come out on top. “We will have a round of semifinals and a championship game. There is no telling who will win, with all the teams being very competitive, is hard to say.”

“Here at BDCRA we want to keep the adult involved in our different sports leagues too, we are currently running adult soccer and softball,” Becerra said in conclusion, adding, “We have open registrations for adult basketball and after soccer and softball, we are planning to have adult kickball.”

Additionally, the Recreation Authority is also conducting evaluations for their kid’s travel soccer program, with 60 already registered, three times as many as the previous year. “ We have had a lot of success with this teams in the past few years. We have competed in several different tournaments and won first place in many of them,” he stated.
