BAINBRIDGE, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A Unadilla man faces several charges after he led New York State Police on a car chase on State Route 206 on Tuesday, July 25.

A trooper was patrolling East Main Street in the village of Bainbridge when he spotted a vehicle make several violations of traffic law. The trooper attempted to make a stop, but the operator — later identified as 39-year-old Peter Puglisi of Unadilla — failed to comply.

The chase led Troopers to State Route 206, where troopers terminated the chase due to allegedly dangerous behavior by Puglisi. A short time later, troopers say they noticed the vehicle Puglisi was driving had struck a pole and a tree and caught on fire.

Troopers were able to put out the vehicle fire, but Puglisi fled the scene.

Troopers conducted a search of the immediate area for Puglisi to check his welfare for several hours. After the approximately four-hour search, they were able to find him on County Road 38 in the town of Bainbridge.

    Puglisi was charged with:

    • fourth-degree Criminal Mischief, a Class A Misdemeanor, and
    • Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Puglisi was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Bainbridge Court on Monday, July 15.
